Significantly improved results with Maersk Line

Despite losses in transport volume Maersk Line achieved profit of USD 643 million in the first six months of 2013
 
With their strategy to cut costs per container unit, Maersk Line steers a good course. In the period from January to June 2013 the globally operating container shipping company achieved profit of USD 643 million. Last year they registered losses of USD 372 million for this period. Turnover declined from USD 13.6 billion in the first six months 2012 to USD 12.96 billion, the company announced on August 16. Transport volume amounted to 4.3 million FFE (2012: 4.4 million FFE). Average revenue per FFE were also declining.
 
In the reporting period Maersk Line registered a significantly rising demand on import relations with global growth markets. This was opposed to a diminished demand on relations from Asia to Europe. As per June 30, the fleet of the Danish container shipping company was composed of 275 own ships of 1.5 million TEU capacity and 309 chartered units, offering slots for 1.1 million TEU.
