Dachser sets up joint venture to enter the market in South Africa

Majority shareholding in Jonen Freight Pty. Ltd. enlarges worldwide opertating range of Dachser Air & Sea Logistics

 

The internationally operating logistics provider, Dachser, is further expanding its intercontinental network in South Africa with the acquisition of a majority shareholding in Jonen Freight Pty. Ltd. The joint venture employs a staff of 133 and offers extensive logistics services in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. The services portfolio includes customs clearance as well as warehousing and distribution. “For us and many of our globally operating customers, South Africa is an attractive market and important international junction,” says Thomas Reuter, managing director of Dachser Air & Sea Logistics.

Jonen Freight Pty. Ltd. is a privately run logistics company that has been in the market for over 30 years. The enterprise is run in the second generation by the ethnic German Duve family. The joint venture will initially continue to operate within the Dachser group under its present name. By becoming part of and integrated into the Dachser organization Jonen Freight will – in addition to regional competence – get access to a globally integrated logistics network.

The five-man management board is made up of the Jonen managers Detlev and Hartmut Duve as well as the Dachser managers Thomas Reuter, Rüdiger Klug and Rolf Mertins. Rüdiger Klug, EMEA regional manager at Dachser Air & Sea Logistics will act as chairman; Detlev Duve as vice chairman and managing director.
