St. Petersburg’s airport bets on know how of Fraport Consortium

Fraport Consortium to control airport operation in St. Petersburg from April 2010

Based on the experience of Frankfurt Airport the “Northern Capital Gateway“ consortium is intended to make the Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg a showpiece project of Russian aviation infrastructure and as an airport provider. The relevant public-private partnership agreement was signed on 30 October in St. Petersburg. The agreement charges the consortium with development, modernisation and operation (as of April 2010) of Russia’s fourth largest airport.

The airport concession in St. Petersburg has a duration of 30 years. It provides for construction of a new passenger terminal, expansion of apron areas, development of real estate adjacent to the terminal, and modernization of existing infrastructure. A total investment volume of EUR 1.4 billion is planned. The partners of the “Northern Capital Gateway“ consortium are VTB Bank (with 57.5 percent), Fraport AG (35.5 per cent), and Copelouzos Group (7 percent), a Greek conglomerate.
