Strong year 2010 for the air freight industry

IATA-Airlines recorded sharp increase in freight and better load factors in 2010

International air freight traffic showed a 20.6%-increase in 2010 compared to the previous year. This is the result of the latest traffic figures the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has just reported for the year 2010. The average freight load factor saw a 5.2 percentage point improvement to 53.8 per cent compared to 2009.

“The world is moving again. After the biggest crisis of aviation in 2009, people started to travel and do global business again in 2010. Airlines ended the year slightly ahead of early 2008 volumes, but with a pathetic 2.7 per cent profit margin. The challenge is now to turn the increasing demand for mobility into sustainable profit,” said Giovanni Bisignani, IATA’s Director General and CEO.

The International Air Transport Association IATA represents around 230 airlines around the globe, handling 93 per cent of international air cargo transport.
