Stute Logistics invests EUR 6 million for ArcelorMittal Bremen

Fully automated sampling station and connected packaging line consolidates the cooperation of Stute Logistics and ArcelorMittal Bremen

The logistics provider Stute Logistics (AG & Co.) KG invests in a fully automated sampling station with connected packaging line for the steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal Bremen. The total cost is EU 6 million. In this context the previous service contract was renewed for a period of eight years.

The fully automated system developed by SMS Logistiksysteme GmbH allows ArcelorMittal to significantly increase its production through reduced lead times in sampling and packaging, and to handle „just-in-time“ shipping orders in the future. The heart of the new system is the powerful samples scissors for high-strength and ultra high-strength steel grades, which can cut strip thicknesses from 1.5 to 28.3 mm and remove outer winding defects by the cropping of band segments. So far, for sampling ArcelorMittal Bremen has used the time-consuming manual combustion process in combination with floor roller stations.

Stute as a steel specialist is active for the ArcelorMittal group at various locations as logistics partner for contract and transport services, for example in Neuwied and in Edenkoben. On the premises of ArcelorMittal Bremen GmbH, the company has been responsible for coil logistics since 2010. The scope of services include storage, end-customer specific packaging and shipment of steel coils, sampling and manipulation of coils and the implementation of distribution transport. The operational execution is carried out by the Stute sister company Stahlservice GmbH.

„The investment and the long-term contractual relationship confirm the success story of ArcelorMittal and Stute,“ says Egbert Rudolf, member of the technology board „Finishing“ at ArcelorMittal Bremen. „This underlines our long-term, strategic partnership and secures it for the future.“

ArcelorMittal is the world’s leading steel producer with plants in more than 60 countries. At their traditional site in Bremen 3,500 employees produce raw and galvanised quality steel for applications including in the automotive industry.

Stute Logistics (AG & Co.) KG has about 2,000 employees in Germany. Founded in 1853, the Bremen-based company is present at 39 national locations today, and counts among the leading service providers in the segment of industry-oriented transport and contract logistics. Since 1996 the Kuehne + Nagel group is holding 100 per cent of Stute. Their regular customers include corporate groups as well as small and medium sized enterprises from the following industries: automotive, aerospace, steel and aluminium, and mechanical engineering.
