Supply Chain Conference 2020: Day One Preview

The line-up of logistics leaders at the Supply Chain Conference 2020 – which takes place in London on 17 and 18 March – makes it the must-attend event for supply chain professionals, featuring industry-leading best-practice from award-winning businesses. 

The Supply Chain Conference 2020 begins with Day One on Tuesday 17 March at Monument, 8 Eastcheap, and is chaired by industry legend Richard Hunt CBE.

Allison Bales, senior manager – strategy and development at Henkel

The opening address from German consumer brand giant Henkel – the force behind such household names as Unibond, Loctite, Schwartkopf and Sellotape – looking at how it implemented a “digital backbone” infrastructure in its laundry and home care business unit and drives value from digital.

Next up is the winner of the Team of the Year at the 2019 Supply Chain Excellence AwardsCentral England Co-operative – looking at how an organisation can excel in its supply chain strategy and implement transformations in teams. Speakers are corporate responsibility manager Hannah Gallimore and distribution warehouse manager Lee Dundee.

Building sustained collaboration and realising its business benefits are one of the pillars of a successful supply chain, and Tom Rose, head of international operations, SPAR International will show the approach to success through case studies from across the retailer.

Rapidly expanding direct-to-consumer online retailers must learn to adapt and use innovative supply chain management techniques in order to be successful. Caroline Curtis, head of supply chain at tails.com will share learnings as to how the e-commerce retailer has modified established ways of working.

Ian Harbour, associate director – warehousing, at Coca Cola European Partners

Ian Harbour, associate director – warehousing, at Coca Cola European Partners, will guide delegates through how it ensures there is enough inventory to meet customers’ needs; what processes it uses for an efficient warehouse operation and how it manages the challenge of fulfilment during peak periods.

The future challenges of distribution, including warehouse consolidation, will be addressed by Jim Gallagher, supply chain, procurement and logistics director at BSH Group, followed by a panel discussion addressing ‘Why do we need a digitising supply chain?’ featuring not just Gallagher, but Eirini Etoimou, group procurement manager at Odeon & UCI Cinemas and Tony Bury, group supply chain director at Lactalis McLelland.

The challenges of e-commerce and how to overcome them will tackled by Nick Fox, head of logistics at Link Theory – the company behind fashion e-tailer theory – while Nicole Kurz, head of supply chain services at Lactalis McLelland will tackle issues such as: is demand planning crucial in your supply chain process; what is the biggest challenge when forecasting inventory levels and how to avoid overstocks and understocking in the supply chain planning process in her presentation ‘Improving Forecasting Accuracy’.

Rounding off the day will be Laura Bacon, integrated business planning and operations manager at Nando’s discussing how to ensure the execution of an S&OP strategy works.
