Swiss World Cargo feels consequence of global economic crisis

At the turn of the years 2008/09 Swiss World Cargo recorded substantial declines in revenue freight ton kilometres. According to a statement of the Management of the air cargo segment of Swiss International Airlines demand dropped 20 per cent in December and 23 per cent in January.

Thanks to the positive trend in business during the first three quarters of the full year 2008, the company sold 5.6 per cent more freight ton kilometres than in the same period of 2007. The freight load factor dropped by around 7.7 percent to 77.6 per cent.

In 2008 Swiss International Airlines achieved an increase of the operating revenue by 7.6 per cent to CHF 5.267 billion. Earnings before taxes and interest (EBIT) amounted to CHF 507 million, which is 6.5 per cent less than in the same period of the previous year.
