Switching to EVs could save logistics companies thousands, data shows

Webfleet, Bridgestone’s software subsidiary specialising in fleet management solutions, has published data showing the extent of potential savings for organisations of switching to electric vehicles (EVs).

According to the Electrifying Data report, European logistics companies using an EV instead of a vehicle with a internal combustion engine (ICE) for last mile deliveries saw an average reduction in mileage by 36,661 miles, fuel costs by around £4,000, and CO2 emissions by 8.3 tonnes per vehicle each year.

Savings in the UK are amongst the highest in Europe across all industries, with a switch to EVs cutting costs by an average of over £2,500 per vehicle yearly.

Latest statistics from the Department for Transport show that transport is the largest emitting sector of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, producing 24% of the UK’s total emissions in 2020. That year, the industry was responsible for the emission of 406 million tonnes of CO2e.

Interestingly, Webfleet claims that it saw a 300% increase in the usage of its tool after fuel prices began rising in March 2022.
