Threatening additional costs for German air cargo shippers
Germany: Known shippers without official authorisation to loose their status as part of the secure supply chain by the end of March
The Federal Aviation Office (LBA) in Braunschweig issued a warning of bottlenecks in air cargo traffic. Experts fear congestions at airports and cost explosions: Having no official authorisation many enterprises will loose their status as known shippers sending their products by air freight on 25 March. This means the cargo can not be flown without a further intensive security investigation.
Only about 1,000 from 40,000 potential German companies have so far been officially authorised according to the LBA, reads a press information of the experts organisation Dekra. Known shippers must autonomously ensure the protection of air freight against unauthorised access or manipulation in the company. On this condition the air freight can pass without further security control.
