UPS expands healthcare network

UPS has significantly expanded its global healthcare distribution facility network to accommodate continued rapid growth in its healthcare business, driven by expanding relationships with healthcare companies and an increasing trend toward outsourcing.

With the new facilities in Asia, Europe, Canada and the US, UPS now has a total of thirty healthcare-dedicated facilities around the world.

The new facilities, located in Singapore; Venlo, the Netherlands; Burlington, Canada, and Louisville, USA, bring the total amount of UPS dedicated healthcare distribution space to more than 371,600 m².

Specially designed to meet the needs of pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies, the facilities are configured to help manufacturers meet stringent and often-complex regulatory requirements for healthcare products, provide flexibility for a changing business environment and serve an increasingly global customer base.

UPS’s healthcare facilities also include temperature sensitive capabilities to handle the specialised storage and distribution needs of these high-value products.

Singapore: Due to open in late-Q2 of this year, UPS’s healthcare operation in Singapore will consist of a 4,000 m² regional distribution facility to serve the increasing number of healthcare companies that are locating manufacturing operations in Asia. It will also serve as an import-export facility with an end-of-runway location to ensure speed to market.

Venlo: Scheduled to open in Q2, the Venlo facility will be the company’s second location in the Netherlands. The 22,800 m² facility is necessary since UPS’s first facility in Roermond sold to capacity within nine months due to a surge in demand for healthcare distribution services in Europe. The facility is located near UPS’s European air hub in Cologne, Germany.

Burlington: Due to open in Q2, the 16,400 m² facility is the company’s tenth dedicated healthcare facility in Canada, and the second such facility at UPS’s Burlington logistics campus, which is located near three major international airports.

Louisville: Due to open in Q4, the 13,400 m² Louisville facility is part of the company’s existing healthcare campus totalling more than 92,900. The new building is strategically located near UPS’s Worldport global air hub to provide next-day delivery for air shipment orders received as late as 23h00, as well as UPS ground deliveries within two days or less to 70% of US locations.
