Vice chairman of NTSB to discuss safety and technology at truckIT Forum

The Honorable Christopher Hart, vice chairman of the NTSB, is to address a leading group of fleet CIOs at this year’s truckIT Forum in Atlanta, November 7th and 8th, on the role that technology can play in safety within the for-hire and private carrier fleet industry.

Christopher Hart will address this audience as industry-wide attention – from both government bodies and carrier fleets – is increasingly focused on fleet safety by both government bodies and carrier fleets.

"The first fifty years of vehicle safety has been focused on surviving crashes, while the next fifty will be about avoiding crashes," said Peter Appel, administrator of the US Dept of Transportation’s Research & Innovative Technology Administration.

Technology is playing a really crucial role in helping CMV operators to avoid accidents – whether we look at driver monitoring technology, engine monitoring technology, EOBRs or hands-free communication, technology is playing a critical role in preventing crashes.

Given the nature of technology within the carrier-fleet industry, this year’s truckIT Forum will focus on several key areas in which it is impacting the industry. At this annual elite meeting of fleet IT executives, speakers and attendees will address major industry technology topics, including: Cloud technology for fleets, keeping business practices in-step with technology trends, taking advantage of consolidating fleet data, and other issues.

CIO of Cardinal Logistics, Clay Holmes, will present on how Software as a Service (SaaS) serves as the great equaliser between big and small carrier-fleets, but also as an effective way for big fleets to reduce by transferring some services to the Cloud.

Other leading speakers include Mike Naatz, CIO of YRCW; Kay Palmer, CIO of JB Hunt; Larry ‘Blue‘ Keene, director of transportation, Tyson Foods; Steven Saltzgiver, group director of Fleet Operations, Coca Cola; and Dennis Beal, VP of Global Vehicles, FedEx.

The 9th truckIT Forum will take place on November 7th – 8th at the InterContinental Buckhead, Atlanta. This event is a senior-level executive forum that brings together top IT and operations executives from both for-hire and private carrier fleets.

Passes and accommodation for truckIT are free for top for-hire and private carrier fleet executives on application, subject to approval by eyefortransport.

A limited number of sponsorship opportunities are also available for companies that provide industry-leading carrier-fleet solutions.
