APL container shipping company from Singapore posted losses on all lines in 2009

The business year 2009 leaves a bitter taste at the APL container shipping company. The affiliate of the NOL Group in Singapore posted losses on all lines. Turnover dropped 31 per cent to USD 5.5 billion. The operating result (EBIT) showed a heavy loss of USD 739 million.

The volume of globally moved cargo declined 7 per cent to 4.6 million TEU in the reporting period. The average vessel utilisation rate of the fleet amounted to 89 per cent. Turnover per forwarded 40 ft-container was 25 per cent below the level of 2008.
