70 years of Mierka Donauhafen Krems

Mierka Donauhafen Krems wants to activate contract logistics profile

Founded in 1939 by Karl Mierka, the Mierka Donauhafen Krems GmbH & Co KG and their 75 employees have been managed by Hubert Mierka since 1974. Despite the unfavourable market conditions the entrepreneur is looking confidently into the future.

A 55,000 sq.m. area is available for further expansion. The river shipping port operator considers constructing a new hall for bulk goods and strives to strengthen its positioning within the contract logistics industry. As for the Danube-river the businessman wishes above all the set up of a container liner service between the Romanian seaport of Constantza and stations at Austrian inland ports.

Against adverse circumstances the MDK-company is able to generate a small but mighty profit in the current year as well. In 2008 the total transport volume of almost 1.4 million tons was nearly 2 per cent above the previous year’s figure. The container terminal Wiencont Krems (74% Mierka Donauhafen Krems, 26 % Wiencont Wien) achieved last year’s level with 42,000 TEU.
