A new era has started for DB Schenker’s business station Salzburg-Bergheim. On 1 October the rail sising for the new terminal was opened together with the partner for traction SLB Salzburger Lokalbahnen.

With the 414 metres track the forwarding facility advanced into an intermodal hub. Walter Mönichweger, Head of the business station in Salzburg figured the investment with EUR 1.5 million in a press interview. The total costs for the implementation of the terminal (10,000 m² throughput area, 4,000 m² logistics warehouse and 3,000 m² offices) amounted to EUR 26 million.

Friedrich Hofinger, in charge of the marketing of rail transport at DB Schenker in Austria Österreich, wants to put through between 5,000 and 10,000 tons of rail freight at the location in Salzburg-Bergheim in the first 12 months. The forwarder registers a growing number of customers aand interest in reinforcing the environmentally-friendly forms of transport logistics. Last year around 300,000 tons of goods were handled throughout Europe on the rail under the direction of DB Schenker Salzburg.
