APL container shipping company operates with losses

APL struggles with global economic crisis
 

The global economic crisis takes it toll on the APL container shipping company in the form of considerable losses. The company affiliated to the NOL Group in Singapore transported exactly 1.94 million TEU in the first six months of 2009. Thus the reference value of the previous year was failed by 24 per cent. Revenue was down by 37 per cent to US$ 2.93 billion. EBIT was clearly negative with US$ 376 million.

For the rest of the year, the Management anticipates a continuation of adverse business operating conditions. According to a press release the group will continue to focus on improving asset utilisation, yields and productivity.
