APL Logistics buys companies in China and USA

Takeover of APLL-Zhiqin Group and Carmichael International Service consolidates international market position of APL Logistics
 
APL Logistics, a company of the Singapore-based logistics group NOL, specialising on solutions for supply chain management and contract logistics, took over two companies in China and the USA to consolidate its market position in international supply chain management and to enhance the service portfolio.
 
In October APL Logistics and Legend Holdings Co., Ltd., and Beijing Willway Information Technology Co., Ltd. signed an agreement about the purchase of all shares of the APLL-Zhiqin group, which had until then been a joint venture of the three companies in China. The transaction shall be completed by the end of 2012.APLL-Zhiqin has currently about 1,000 employees, operates more than 20 hubs and has a comprehensive transport and distribution network covering more than 2,000 locations in China. They offer services in the sectors hub management, domestic transportation, import and export management as well as supply chain management services including supply chain management consulting.
 
Moreover in November APL Logistics acquired Carmichael International Service in the USA. The company based in Los Angeles counts among the biggest independent specialists in the sector of consulting and meeting US import and export regulations, as well as the handling of importations and exportations in the USA. Established in 1961 the enterprise employs about 200 experts in the USA and operates locations in New York/New Jersey, Chicago, San Francisco/Oakland, Seattle/Tacoma, Miami, Boston, Atlanta, Savannah and Memphis.
 
"This acquisition is of great strategic importance to us, as the integration of Carmichael International Service allows us to expand the international supply chain services of APL Logistics, which is an advantage for our customers", says Jim McAdam, President APL Logistics.
 
Generating turnover at the amount of USD 1.4 billion in 2011, APL Logistics counts among the leading logistics enterprises worldwide. The company optimises and manages global supply chains from the origin to the point of sale for more than 800 clients around the globe. They are active in 53 countries, operating 260 locations with about 4,500 employees.
