RCA CEO Arnold Schiefer changes from cargo railway to the commando bridge of Alpine group

Rail Cargo Austria AG looses its CEO. Arnold Schiefer (46), was appointed the new CEO of Alpine on 7 March. His change to the executive chair of Austria’s second-biggest construction group will take place in early April. Arnold Schiefer is to head the transformation process of Alpine. The target is to make the enterprise a profitable construction group with efficient, strong structures again. The key element of the strategic reorganisation of the enterprise is concentrating on the profitable core business and hence closing projects in Central and Eastern Europe that are not profitable. “Austria will remain the key market also in the future. Having appointed an Austrian at the top position of the group is a clear signal therefore“, reads a press release.

Born in Upper Austria, Arnold Schiefer studied Business Economics in Vienna and Innsbruck. From the year 2000 he was in charge of several functions of the Ministry of Infrastructure. Before he changed to the ÖBB in 2005, he was among other functions member of the supervisory board of ASFINAG. At ÖBB he took over the project management for the construction of Vienna’s central train station and was interim member of the board of Brenner Basistunnel. As the chairman of the board of ÖBB, he supervised the merger in the infrastructure sector and the new orientation of ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG, switching to Rail Cargo Austria AG in 2011. In this position he was in charge of the reorganization and turnaround of Rail Cargo Hungaria. Lately he was holding the position of chairman of the board at Rail Cargo Austria AG and was member of the supervisory board of Asset One in Graz.
