Ascherl & Co: “logistics with passion“ joined under the umbrella of Noerpel

C.E. Noerpel acquires Ascherl & Co. forwarding, improving its coverage in Southern Germany; new junctions in Munich, Hamburg and Hilden

As of 1 September 2014 C.E. Noerpel GmbH takes over the Ascherl & Co. logistics provider and its houses in Munich, Hamburg and Hilden near Düsseldorf. The Ulm-based family enterprise is thereby consequently implementing its strategic target, to create a service network covering Southern Germany, and to expand its position as a market leader for international transportations to Europe.

“Munich is a strategically interesting junction for our transport services to Italy, Austria and Eastern Europe“, says Frank Irslinger, managing director. In addition the locations in Hamburg and Hilden offer ideal conditions to strengthen Noerpel’s export business. “Hamburg provides ideal conditions for us to serve our customers from Southern Germany with container transportations and logistics including subsequent road transport from one source,” adds Stefan Noerpel-Schneider, owner of the company. The Ascherl location will also play a major role in the Noerpel organisation when it comes to transportations to the Benelux countries and Northern France.

A central point in the takeover is that, all employees will be retained and dismissals for operational reasons are excluded, like with the previous acquisitions of the forwarding companies Kentner and Cordes + Simon. „We live by our staff, they are the basis of our daily work,“ explains Frank Irslinger. „With this procedure we ensure continuity in the business relationship with our customers.“

After the acquisitions of houses Fross in Teningen, Kentner in Heidenheim and the former Cordes + Simon site in Villingen-Schwenningen, Noerpel employs more than 1,700 persons and expects to generate an annual turnover of around EUR 280 million together with Ascherl.

Founded in 1881, Noerpel is today one of the leading logistics providers in Southern Germany as well as regional leader for export in Europe. Run by the fifth generation the family-owned company is headquartered in Ulm and is mainly active in Vorarlberg and the entire northern part of Switzerland, apart from Southern Germany. Its customers include many market leaders – mainly companies from the consumer goods and food industries as well as suppliers.
