Award for DB Schenker`s „Danube Nordic Shuttle“

DB Schenker receives logistics prize for intermodal services from Rostock to Basel, Domodossola, Verona and Wels:

Schenker Deutschland AG received the first „Logistikpreis Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" for its „Green Logistics im Nord-Süd-Korridor" concept. Prime Minister Erwin Sellering handed over the award together with Transport Minister Volker Schlotmann to representatives of the specialist for integrated logistics.

The seaport of Rostock is DB Schenker’s most northern hub of a special traffic corridor, on which cargo is transported back safely, quickly and reliably on the railway from north to middle and south-eastern Europe. A block train system carrying 32 full trailer trucks connects Rostock to Basel, Domodossola, Verona and Wels. Thus DB Schenker avoids at least 30,000 truck kilometres on the road per trip.

„This logistics solution offers shippers an intelligent combination of cargo transport on the road, rail and ferry that unites economic and ecological advantages. Our offer combines flexibility of the truck and the railway. Hence our customers can achieve a better environmental balance sheet“, says Dr. Hansjörg Rodi, CEO Schenker Deutschland AG.

DB Schenker operates this combination of truck and rail under the name DB SCHENKERhangartner. On long routes, as e.g. on the corridor between Rostock and Italy, Austria and Schwitzerland, cargo is travelling in unaccompanied transport on the railway. In addition to trailer trucks from Scandinavia, arriving via the seaport in Rostock, also goods from customers from trade and industry from all over Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are joined at the location in Güstrow for transport on the north-south rail corridor.
