AWT sells non-rail forwarding services to DSV

DSV in Czech Republic acquires the road, air and sea freight activities and contract logistics of AWT Cechofracht

AWT Group, one of the largest private providers of rail transport services in Europe, has sold the non-rail portfolio of AWT Čechofracht, a Czech freight forwarder, to DSV A/S, a global transport and logistics company that is listed on the Copenhagen stock exchange. Terms of the transaction are confidential.

The agreement includes the road, air and sea freight activities and contract logistics of AWT Čechofracht and will as such strengthen the market position of all three DSV divisions in the Czech Republic. In the last 12 months, the activities acquired from AWT Čechofracht a.s. has generated revenue of approximately EUR 30 million. 188 Cechofracht employees will move to DSV. AWT Čechofracht’s remaining team will focus on rail transport services.

Pierre Timmermans, Chief Executive Officer of AWT, said: “Our strategy is focused on the development of our rail and rail related freight business in Central and Eastern Europe. We felt that another company would best serve the development of the non-rail portfolio of AWT Čechofracht, and DSV is ideally placed for that task.” "AWT Čechofracht a.s. is an important player with strong traditions in the Czech market. The activities acquired match the current DSV services in the Czech Republic well and will furthermore create a complete local distribution network" says Group CEO Jens Bjorn Andersen.

AWT has more than 60 years of experience in rail transport in Central Europe, and operates a large fleet of rolling stock, with 160 locomotives and approximately 5,500 wagons. The company operates and manages railway sidings for dozens of large industrial companies, operates an intermodal inland terminal, and provides rail transport between Central Europe and ports in Northern Europe, the Adriatic and on the Black Sea.

DSV is a global supplier of transport and logistics solutions with operations in more than 60 countries all over the world and an international network of partners and agents. About 22,000 employees recorded worldwide annual revenue of EUR 6 billion for 2011.
