Bertschi starts operating new block train with its partner Lkw Walter

Regular block train service of Bertschi AG on the DKT Duisburg-Ljubljana route and v.v. accepts also craneable trailers of the Lkw Walter forwarding company

Bertschi starts operating a new block train from the DKT Duisburg terminal to Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana, as the European-wide operating bulk-chemicals logistician Bertschi AG announces in a press release issued on February 17. The route is suitable for goods from Benelux and Rhein/Ruhr to Slovenia, Croatia as well as north-eastern Italy.

Same as in the case of the train between Duisburg and Busto Arsizio running successfully since December 2012, Bertschi AG searched for a partner being able to load cranable trailers, and found the Austrian freight forwarder, Lkw Walter.

„In Europe Lkw Walter is a major user of intermodal transports in the field of palletised packaged goods. On our shared train between Duisburg and Ljubljana, the Austrian transport company mainly conveys steel, plastics and consumer goods,” reads the mailing.

The contract partner and haulage operator of the train is Rail Cargo Austria (RCA), a subsidiary of the Austrian Federal Railways. The locomotives run continuously between Germany and Slovenia, with the drivers changing in Munich.

The blocktrain consists of 8, 60ft flat container wagons and 19 pocket wagons, and is 500 meters long. The maximum weight southbound is 1’750 tonnes and northbound 1’600 tonnes. Bertschi and Lkw Walter load a constant capacity on the train. RCA may sell the remaining capacity on the free market. The current frequency is three weekly departures per course.

The trains leave the departure terminals in both directions at light night on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and reach the destination terminal after approximately a 35-hour journey.
