British Airways Group deep in the red

British Airways World Cargo reported rise in turnover 2008/09 

The global economic crisis shows its impact also with the British Airways Group. In the fiscal year 2008/09 (March 31) the enterprise slided deeply into the red with its operational business. Taking into consideration the restructuring costs at the amount of GBP 78 million, the disposal is GBP 220 million. In the fiscal period 2007/08 the operative result had been clearly positive with GBP 878 million. The annual result before taxes showed a profit of GBP 922 million in the year 2007/08 but plummeted to minus GBP 401 million. The annual turnover 2007/08 amounted to GBP 8.99 billion.

Despite difficult conditions the cargo division operating under the brand name British Airways World Cargo was able to increase its turnover by 9.4 per cent to GBP 673 million. Transport performance in the reporting period declined by 5.2 per cent to 4.638 billion freight ton kilometres compared to the previous year.
