Bulgaria in search of investors for its Danube ports

Investors from Austria and Central Europe shall bring a new lease of life to Bulgaria’s Danube ports

In Bulgaria there are signs becoming visible indicating the opening of several Danube ports for foreign operators. Ivaylo Moskovski, Minister of Transport, held out the prospect of speedy granting of appropriate licenses at the Vienna Economic Forum in Sofia. In this context he expressed also his hope for a stronger involvement of the Austrian investors, with whom the south-east European country had made good experiences so far.

According to Ivaylo Moskovski the Bulgarian ministry of transport is elaborating license agreements for the Danube ports in Ruse, Vidin, Lom, Nikopol and Tutrakan. These sites should be attractive for Austrian investors, the politician estimates with the given importance of the waterway for business in Central Europe. The government in Sofia expects future licensees to support the modernisation of the transport industry and increase the country’s competitiveness.
