CMA CGM expects positive result for 2011

Measures to increase efficiency and focus on expansion in emerging markets is paying for CMA CGM:

The French shipping group CMA CGM continued to deploy the cost-control initiatives to develop its strategic position in liner shipping business from and to emerging markets, to continue the success of the previous year. In an interim report the enterprise gives an outlook for a positive total result for 2011. In this paper the company announces also further expansion steps in South America as well as initiatives to consolidate its strategic position on routes to Russia and India.

The container shipping company has reported revenue of USD 7.3 billion for the first six months of 2011, an increase of 8 per cent compared with the previous year. EBIT declined 33 per cent to USD 592 million. Net profit amounted to USD 237 million, after USD 849 million in the first half of the year 2010.

The 390 container vessels operated by CMA CGM – including 93 owned units – carried 4.8 million TEU (up 9 per cent) in the reporting period. Total capacity of the fleet was increased 17 per cent to 1.289 million TEU.
