CMA CGM forwarded more than 9 million TEU in 2010

French container shipping company CMA CGM made up for lost ground with turnover and operative result in 2010

 

2010 was a successful year for the French shipping group CMA CGM. Thanks to the rising demand of customers for container shipping capacities and the recovery of freight rates turnover has soared up 36 per cent on 2009 to USD 14.3 billion. The Asia-Europe and intra-Asia lines saw the strongest growth during the year. The operating result (EBITDA) turned from minus USD 667 million to plus USD 2.5 billion. In total net profit amounted to USD 1.63 billion (2009: minus USD 1.42 billion).

CMA CGM transported 9.04 million TEU in the reporting period, which is 15 per cent more than in 2009. The group enhanced its fleet capabilities by taking delivery of 20 new ships, to 396 vessels (of which 91 owned carriers) offering 1.22 TEU carrying capacity. This figure is representing 8.6 per cent of worldwide capacity. CMA CGM’s container fleet covered 1.856 million TEU at the closing day of the balance sheet.
