Continued container boom at the port of Koper

Port of Koper registered considerable increasing key figures for container transport in the first half of 2011

The Slovenian seaport of Koper was able to maintain its position as the hub handling the biggest volumes in maritime container traffic in the northern Adriatic Sea throughout the first half of the year 2011. From January to June 302,345 TEU passed the quay walls, surpassing expected figures by 18 per cent. Compared to the first six months of 2010 container transport has improved by 36 per cent. Transit in Austria accounted considerably therefore. This year Koper targets a new record.

In the first half of 2011, Luka Koper d.d. handled 8,36 million tons of cargo, which is eight percent ahead of the same period last year. Apart from containers, vehicles as well as liquid cargos recorded the largest growth rates.
