DB Schenker enlarges its natural gas-driven fleet in Vienna

Second natural gas-driven truck of DB Schenker’s branch in Vienna to start operating in distribution traffic from the end of November:

The Viennese branch of Schenker & Co AG is to start operating its second natural gas-driven distribution truck from the end of November. The truck with a green superstructure will deliver and collect consignments in Vienna’s central districts, and cover a distance of about 150 kilometres per day. By the mid of April 2011 the branch in Vienna-Albern had put into service the first gas-driven truck.

Covering a distance of each 24,000 kilometres per year, the gas-driven trucks save about 2.2 tons of CO2. Emission of fine dust particles is reduced to a minimum. Moreover the trucks meet the strict emission standard EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle), which is below the future EURO-6 emission level.

Another important element of DB Schenker’s climate protection offensive is energy-saving driving mode in overland transport. Until the end of this year about 30,000 truck drivers across Europe will get such training. As experience shows, trained drivers can save up to ten per cent of fuel consumption. „Ecology is not just a buzz word for us, but a company target,“ explains Alexander Schaffer, Manager of the branch in Vienna Albern.

“Through using modern, energy efficient vehicles, ECO driving trainings for drivers and many more actions we are making our daily contribution to protect the environment and increase competitiveness of our customers,“ he adds.
