DHL offers its first intermodal service on the trans-Siberian route

Multimodal transport solution of DHL Global Forwarding, Freight reduces lead times from China to Europe by up to 21 days

DHL Global Forwarding, Freight, the air and sea freight specialist of Deutsche Post DHL, enters the segment of intermodal transport between Asia and Europe. The European provider of overland transport services has extended its route offerings by two routes that combine rail and road transportation. This allows DHL to offer transportations via the trans-Siberian route with defined departures for the first time. For the most part, overland transportation between Shanghai and the EU border at Malaszewicze (Poland) will be carried out by rail.

In addition to the daily shipments from Shanghai via the trans-Siberian route in the north, a weekly departure from Chengdu will be available. The second route is optimised for customers based in western China and offers transit times reduced up to eight days compared to the trans-Siberian route and significant cost reduction.

"This service offers the option of booking variable capacity – ranging from a single container to whole trains. At the same time, it connects seamlessly with both our groupage network in Europe and DHL Global Forwarding, Freight’s Asian network, including markets such as Japan and Korea," explains Amadou Diallo, CEO DHL Freight.
