DP World opens new container terminal at Port Qasim

DP World’s new container terminal at Port Qasim improves sea freight handling from and to Pakistan and Afghanistan

Putting into operation the first of three segments of terminal 2 in Port Qasim, the port logistics group DP World creates better conditions for containerised sea freight handling with destination and departure points in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The new building increases the annual capacity of the port, which is situated close to the Pakistani economic metropolis Karachi from previously 900,000 to 1.2 million TEU.

The heart piece of the port facility built on a 13 hectares area is the quay, which is equipped with three portal cranes and intermodal connections. The terminal is open to container vessels with a maximum capacity of 6,700 TEU. DP World intends to develop Port Qasim into Pakistan’s leading port for container traffic.
