Kuehne + Nagel buys three South American perishables specialists

Takeover of Translargo S.A.S., Agencia de Aduanas Excelsia and Mastertransport SA makes Kuehne + Nagel market leader in the perishables segment in South America

Kuehne + Nagel acquires three companies in South America specialised in perishables logistics activities (fresh goods). Taking over the Colombian companies Translago S.A.S. and Agencia de Aduanas Excelsia Ltda. as well as the forwarding company Mastertransport SA in Ecuador, the enterprise becomes the leading service provider in the South American perishables segment after joining the newly acquired business with their existing operations, as they state.

Translago S.A.S. and Agencia de Aduanas Excelsia Ltda., both headquartered in Bogota, employ around 160 staff and are the market leaders in exports of flowers and other perishables, mainly to destinations in the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific. With 30 employees, Mastertransport SA is an important player in this niche forwarding business in Ecuador. Together, the three companies transport approximately 75,000 tons air freight perishables per annum.

Global expansion in the field of perishables logistics for goods such as flowers, fruit and vegetables is an important element of Kuehne + Nagel’s growth programme. By acquiring these specialised service providers in Colombia and Ecuador, Kuehne + Nagel gains access to two of South America’s key perishables export markets, and, at the same time, considerably strengthens its position in the regional airfreight markets.
