DPD Austria: Modernised main hub centre in Linz/Hörsching

Technical novelties with DPD Austria: Modern hard and software for parcel sorting at main transhipment centre

DPD Austria has modernised its main transhipment centre in Linz/Hörsching, which serves as a hub point for the biggest private parcel service company in Austria. With a total investment of EUR 100,000 they introduced new parcel sorting hard and software. Moreover technological rebuildings and new acquisitions at the main transhipment centre allow more efficient processes in spite of a growing number of parcels.

Thus the private parcel service company DPD expanded its sorting facility by two more loading gates for swap bodies, and built two additional twelve metres long telescopes for unloading of trailers. Furthermore they invested into a hydraulic ramp to improve unloading of pallets.

About 70,000 parcels are handled per day at the main transhipment centre in Hörsching near Linz. On peak days in December up to 120,000 parcels are handled at the facility. Every day 100 to 120 trucks are approaching the transhipment centre, deliver parcels and distribute them after being sorted throughout Austria and the neighbouring countries.

DPD Austria (Direct Parcel Distribution) based in Leopoldsdorf near Vienna is the leading parcel service in Austria. The enterprise provides a wide range of services for national and international parcel distribution. About 1,500 employees across the nation are operating a fleet of 900 vehicles, handling about 38.5 million parcels in 2012.
