WLB Cargo to use new locomotives and goes abroad

WLB Cargo to shortly open its first location abroad in Berlin and is Austria’s first railway enterprise to put on rail the Siemens Vectron locomotive
 
Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo GmbH (WLB Cargo) is preparing to establish their first location abroad. In order to come closer to customers in Germany and to improve the service range, they will shortly open a location south of Berlin, the company announces in a press release.
 
WLB Cargo is Austria’s first railway company to use a locomotive of the new Siemens Vectron series. In early July 2013 they hired two new tractive units from the partner Railpool. On 9 July the private railway company will start operating the Vectron locomotive, and will expand the current operations range of Railpool units from Germany to Austria.
 
„The new generation-locomotive’s first trip will go from Vienna (Erdberger Lände) to the border with Hungary – Hegyeshalom", say Gerald Retscher and Christian Hann, Managing Directors of Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo. There the Vectron will take over 193 coke wagons and transport them towards Passau.
 
Apart from that, rail transport operations in seaports hinterland from and to Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Antwerp and Koper is gaining significance for the enterprise. Since about two months ago there is a regular cargo train service operated between Vienna and the Baltic Sea port of Rostock.
 
In 2012 WLB Cargo tractioned more than 4,600 cargo trains carrying 3.3 million tonnes. With 78 employees they genrated turnover of EUR 56 million. Including the new Vectron units, the railway company based in Vienna has a fleet of 20 electronic locomotives and 4 diesel locomotives.
