“DPD on the rail“ is operated on a regular basis effective now

DPD Austria parcel service covers the Wels-Bludenz route on the rail since 16 April

The pilot project started in February, "DPD on rail" runs in regular mode since the 16 April. To reduce CO2-emissions parcels are transported from Wels to Bludenz on the rail instead of the classic transport by truck. Therefore, the terminal opening times at the shunting yards of Rail Cargo Austria were extended to meet the needs of DPD Austria.

"We are very pleased that using ‘DPD on rail’ we could conclude the test phase so successful and can transport our parcels more sustainable. Rail Cargo Austria is providing resources, and we can move about 1,200 parcels a day", says Rainer Schwarz, CEO of DPD Austria. Also the factor of efficiency is ensured, according to his statements.

DPD Austria wants to improve the CO2 balance through a number of sustainable measures and promote a rethinking of transportation concepts. In addition to the use of more fuel-efficient vehicles, including economic route design "DPD on rail" is another milestone in the sustainability strategy of the company.
