Kombiverkehr starts fast direct rail service from the Czech Republic to Italy

Direct rail service with Kombiverkehr, Cemat and Bohemiakombi offers A-B connection from Ostrava to Verona and return:

The Kombiverkehr deutsche Gesellschaft für den kombinierten Güterverkehr (German company for combined transport) adds an international liner service to its product portfolio. This week the first direct rail services of the combined road/rail transport will connect the industrial regions in the northern Czech Republic and southern Poland to northern Italy. The trains for containers, swap bodies and semi trailers are operated three times per week on each course between Ostrava, Czech Republic, and Verona. Departing on Wednesdays and Fridays in Verona, or Mondays and Wednesdays in Ostrava, the trains arrive at their destination the following day. On weekends departures are scheduled for Fridays or Saturdays, with arrival at Monday morning with the shipments to be ready for collection from 6 am at the destination rail station.

“Apart from the classic north-south relations, demand is increasing for direct rail services connecting East and Southeastern Europe", says Robert Breuhahn, managing director Kombiverkehr. “Together with our Italian partner Cemat and our Czech partner Bohemiakombi we organised this fast direct rail service, which is particularly designed to meet this demand and opens new opportunities for combined transport to carriers and forwarders.”

The Quadrante Europe Terminal in Verona offers direct rail forwarding options for shipments from Eastern Europe to Bologna, Nola and via Bari to Patras, Greece. At the same time loads from southern Italy can be forwarded per direct rail services to Ostrava. The Ostrava Terminal situated at the border with Poland covers the north eastern industrial region in the Czech Republic, as well as the big industrial regions in southern Poland, from Silesia to Krakow.

Traction of the new rail service lies in the hands of private railway companies. The RTC company is in charge of the Brenner segment in Italy, Münchener Lokomotion is in charge of the Austrian and German segment, and the Czech AWT company is charged with the Czech segment.
