Emirates SkyCargo crosses the 3 billion USD turnover mark

Prolonged growth with Emirates SkyCargo from Dubai: Global cargo significantly increased to 2,3 million tons in fiscal year 2013/14

Contrary to the market trend, Emirates SkyCargo (Dubai) has registered a successful business year 2013/14. For the first time ever, turnover exceeded the 3 billion USD mark. At 11,3 billion AED (3,1 billion USD), last year’s comparative value was outperformed by 9 per cent. In the reporting period aircargo contributed 15 % to the total transport turnover generated by Emirates Airline. The freight division plays a leading role in the company’s expansion.

In a stagnating and very challenging market environment, freight tonnage by Emirates SkyCargo increased by 8 per cent to 2,3 billion tons during the business year 2013/14. However the revenues per freight-ton-kilometre decreased by 1 per cent. At the end of the fiscal year the cargo fleet included twelve planes, ten of which are operated in operating-lease and two in wet-lease.

According to the annual report which was released on 8 May, the Emirates Group generated.a profit of 1,1 billion USD in the business year 2013/14. This equals an increase of 32 % compared to last year’s figures. The turnover of the corporate group increased by 13 per cent to 23,9 billion USD. From a turnover of 22,5 billion USD the airline generated a record profit of 887 billion USD.

“For the 26th time in a row we close the fiscal year with a profit, despite record expansions regarding our capacities as well as significant investments within the whole corporate group. We view this as a confirmation of  the strength of our brand and our business foundation”, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline 6 Group, commented on the annual report.
