Etihad Cargo (Abu Dhabi) continues peak performance

Cargo division of Arab airline Etihad Airways carried significantly more airfreight in the first half of 2013; three new freighter aircraft added to fleet

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, was steering its cargo division on a course of success again in the period from January to June 2013. In the reporting period Etihad Cargo registered the company’s strongest growth rates again. In the second quarter they carried 112,963 tonnes of cargo (2012: 89,470 tonnes) and 215,124 tonnes in the first half of the year (2012: 174,622 tonnes). This means year-on-year growth of 26 per cent in the second quarter and 23 per cent in the first half of the year 2013, the airline based in Abu Dhabi informs in a press release.

Increase in volume in the second quarter was driven by the delivery of three new freighter aircraft – a Airbus A330-200F, a Boeing 777-200F and a Boeing 747-8F, the first aircraft of this type for Etihad Cargo, which had been leased by Atlas Air, and is now enlarging the cargo fleet to nine aircraft. Results were supported by additional passenger liner services, allowing transport of airfreight as additional load.
