EUR 3.3 million investments at Ennshafen port in the year 2011

Ennshafen consolidates its position as a trimodal logistics hub by expansion and additional block trains to Hamburg and Bremerhaven

At Ennshafen the year 2011 is characterised by further measures to consolidate the port’s position as a trimodal logistics hub. Upper Austria’s Minister of Economic Affairs Viktor Sigl announced investments at the amount of EUR 3.3 million on 24 January in Linz. These means will be used to add a floor to the office building at the container terminal, increase storage capacity and optimise the IT services offering.

The target of Ennshafen Managing Director Mag. Christian Steindl is to increase water-to-land throughput by 50 per cent as well as container volume by 30 per cent before 2014. To this end the block train offering to the German seaports will be increased by 5 to around 40 weekly services to Hamburg and Bremerhaven in February. In parallel the Management strives to establish regular services to the Adriatic and Black Sea ports as well as to boost transport on the Danube waterway to Southeastern Europe.

In the calendar year 2010 container throughput at Ennshafen rose 42 per cent on 2009 to 225,561 TEU (up 18 per cent compared to 2008). Water-to-land throughput has improved 25 per cent to 663,013 tons (up 23 per cent compared to 2008). Railway throughput was 47 per cent up to 2.8 million tons (up 33 per cent compared to 2008). At the Ennshafen container terminal 2,330 trains with 55,000 wagons were handled.
