European land transport of Deutsche Bahn shows peak performance

DB group generated record revenues in the first half of 2011 thanks to increasing number of passengers and continuous growth in the transport and logistics segment:

Deutsche Bahn is staying on the „track of success“ in its business segments transport and logistics. Rail freight transport handled a total volume of 207.8 million tons in the first half of the year 2011, which is a year-on-year increase of 2.3 per cent. At the same time, volumes sold rose by almost 4.2 billion ton kilometres to 56.78 billion ton kilometres, or 8 per cent more, as DB CEO Dr. Rüdiger Grube announced in Berlin.

European land transport, marketed under the DB Schenker Logistics brand, recorded a strong upswing as the number of shipments surged by 20.7 per cent to 47.51 million. While volumes of ocean freight also climbed by 4.6 per cent, air freight volume declined slightly by 0.6 per cent. From January to June 2011 the DB group as a whole generated the biggest half-year-turnover in its history, a jump in profit and a new increase in the number of passengers. First half 2011 revenues rose by 17.2 per cent over the same year-ago period, to EUR 18.9 billion. “This increase is significantly higher than the additional EUR 1.5 billion in revenues contributed by the latest addition to the Group, Arriva”, emphasised Grube. All business units contributed to the favorable results. Results from operations (adjusted EBIT) rose in the first half of the year to EUR 1.1 billion Euro, or 34 per cent more than the same year-ago figure.
