Far Freight GmbH under the umbrella of Gebrüder Weiss

Gebrüder Weiss wins solid forwarding expertise in the CIS and Caucasus/Central Asia transport by taking over Far Freight GmbH (Vienna)

Following the opening of a modern logistics centre providing 10,500 m² for warehousing and transhipment and 600 m² offices in the Georgian capital Tbilisi in autumn this year, the Gebrüder Weiss group is now advancing their expansion of transport and logistics activities to destinations in the CIS region and in Central Asia.

This becomes possible thanks to the takeover of the Far Freight forwarding company in Vienna, which has been contractually agreed by the end of November. Their previous sole owner Peter Gindl and his entire team will join the business of Gebrüder Weiss. The company will keep the name Far Freight and their location in the office building Riverside in Vienna Brigittenau until further notice.

With the operative focus on land transport, Gebrüder Weiss can extend their services with the support of the Far Freight teams particularly in countries like Turkmenistan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and southern Russia. In the past there have been joint projects of the two companies in several regions of Central Asia.

For Gebrüder Weiss, the continuous expansion of its competence in Central Asia is of great strategic importance. “With the integration of Far Freight into the Gebrüder Weiss network, our customers benefit from well-established transport routes and an excellent knowledge of infrastructure, law and bureaucracy in these regions”, explains Thomas Moser, Regional Manager South-East/CIS at Gebrüder Weiss. The company is thus now in a position to offer its customers “improved access to the upcoming markets in the East”, adds Wolfram Senger-Weiss, a member of the Gebrüder Weiss Board.

Far Freight based in Vienna is an international forwarding company focussing on transport and logistics services to the CIS. Established in 1995 the company generated turnover of EUR 14.5 million last year, and employs 20 persons. Transportations to the CIS on the railway or by truck, as heavy haulage, sea or air freight are the key services of the company. The forwarder is also well established on routes to the Caucasian region and the Middle East. In addition to their headquarters in Vienna they operate locations in Nabereschnyje Tschelny (Russia) and Ashgabad (Turkmenistan).
