FedEx Express launches CO2-neutral shipping without additional costs

Worldwide climate protection campaign of FedEx Express compensates for CO2-emissions of shipping by using the FedEx Express Envelope

FedEx Express starts a worldwide climate protection campaign for its mainly used packaging in documents shipping, the FedEx Express Envelope. As the first express transportation company, they offer a CO2-neutral shipping option without additional costs for the customers. The FedEx Express Envelope is entirely made from recycled material and is completely recyclable.

„Customers around the world appreciate responsible business practices“, says Beth Galetti, Vice President Planning and Engineering, FedEx Express Europe, Near East, Indian Subcontinent and Afrika (EMEA). “With the CO2-neutral shipping of FedEx Express Envelopes we can offer our business partners an environmentally friendly solution combined with our high quality service.“ Every year more than 200 million FedEx Express Envelopes are shipped around the globe.

“FedEx invests into technologies to reduce greenhouse gases at their origin – aircrafts, trucks and operating facilities. We are on the right path to reach our ambitions goals of reducing emissions“, explains Mitch Jackson, Staff Vice President, Environmental Affairs and Sustainability, FedEx Corporation. “The climate protection campaign for the FedEx Express Envelope allows us to make another contribution to reduce the effects of greenhouse gases emitted by our enterprise, through giving our customers more sustainable options to choose from.”

Since 2008 FedEx has set global goals to reduce CO2-emissions in road and air cargo transport. By the end of the 2011 financial year the fuel consumption of the vehicles reduced by 16 per cent, CO2-emissions of the aircrafts declined 13.8 per cent on 2005.
