New E-mobility initiative of Siemens Österreich and Verbund

Joint venture of Siemens Österreich and Verbund shall open an attractive and diverse access to e-mobility for commercial and private customers

The technology company Siemens and Verbund launch a joint initiative to establish a new business area. After several years of research and development the establishment of a joint enterprise shall make e-mobility now applicable in Austria: In the coming years the "E-Mobility Provider Austria" plans to build a dense load network and to establish an innovative blanket e-mobility package for commercial and private clients. "Together with our partners we bring electricity from 100 per cent renewable energy sources on the road in the next few years", Wolfgang Anzengruber, CEO Verbund and Wolfgang Hesoun, General Director Siemens Austria announced at a press conference.

Company formation and operational start of the "E-Mobility Provider" by Siemens and Verbund are scheduled for summer 2012 (subject to antitrust approval for the joint enterprise). The original investment is EUR 20 million. By 2020, investments of around EUR 300 million are planned. Until then, the involvement of other partners from the fields of energy, infrastructure and information technology is planned as well.

The first operative steps cover the establishment of infrastructure and complementary offerings for business customers with their own vehicle fleets. There will be a service package available for end customers by 2013. The "E-Mobility Provider" intends to establish a network of about 4,500 (semi-) public charging stations, such as fuel stations and quick charging stations in Austria before 2020.

Much like a mobile phone provider the "E-Mobility Provider" of Siemens Austria and Verbund will bundle all necessary services for the operation of electric vehicles and offer customers a service package at a package price. In addition to the network of charging stations, the joint venture will also provide infrastructure as well as a routing and information system including service functions such as retrieving the state of charge via smartphones, information about available charging stations with the possibility of reservation of the road, route planning and roadside assistance. All services are available regardless of the brand name of the selected e-vehicle.
