Finsterwalder acquires two Penske Logistics Europe branches

Finsterwalder Transport & Logistik strengthens its position in European land traffic by taking over the transport division of Penske Logistics Europe

The Finsterwalder Transport & Logistik GmbH with its headquarters in Türkheim/Schwaben and branches in Halle/Saale and Marl in the Ruhr area expands its European wide network by adding two more locations. The enterprise acquired the locations in Venlo (Netherlands) and Tartu (Estonia) from Penske Logistics Europe. Since the start of May both branches are operating as Finsterwalder Transport & Logistiek. The complete staff of 108 at both locations will be further employed.

With the acquisitions Finsterwalder Transport & Logistik consolidates its European wide transport competence in the form of a fleet, consisting of around 60 vehicles including disposition. “We are steering a course of expansion. The new capacities ensure a balanced mixture of own and chartered vehicles in the part and full load segment, particularly in Benelux, France and Germany but also in Middle and Eastern Europe“, says Klaus Finsterwalder, managing associate of Finsterwalder Transport & Logistik GmbH.

Established in 1937, Finsterwalder Transport & Logistik GmbH with its headquarters in Türkheim (Allgäu) and branches in Halle an der Saale and Marl in the Ruhr area has more than 1,000 employees and offers full range logistics solutions for trade and industry. In the business segments transport, logistics, warehousing logistics and Railport, the owner-managed enterprise with 230 own vehicles and transport partners, takes over full and part loads as well as general cargo in the systemised alliance of CargoLine. Further important segments for comprehensive logistics solutions are 250,000 m² hall and 110,000 m² open area as well as the operation of a Railports of the Deutsche Bahn in Halle an der Saale. In the 2010 fiscal year they generated a turnover at EUR 102.6 million.

In the course of refocusing on its European business strategy, Penske Logistics has decided to sell the locations in Venlo and Tartu. The enterprise based in the Dutch Roosendaal is now concentrating on (3 PL/4PL) Transport Management, Warehousing and Supply Chain Management.
