Gefco plans to expand its multimodal transport

Gefco is preparing to launch new multimodal transport offerings from Central Europe to Russia and Turkey

With new transport services and plans to expand its offering the Gefco Group widens its range of customised multimodal solutions for the industry. In addition to serving the route from Vesoul in France to Kaluga in the Russian Federation with five rotations per week, as well as the link from Madrid to Paris, the enterprise plans to launch further scheduled multimodal transport services. In a press release they give operations from Slovenia to Russia, from the Baltic States to Central Asia, and between Germany and Turkey as concrete examples.

The background of this measure is the huge interest of large industries for efficient and environmentally friendly logistics services. “Demand for multimodal transport is growing due to environmental constraints,” says Ralf-Charley Scultze, Gefco head of multimodal logistics in Europe, Russia and Central Asia. “More and more companies are communicating on their sustainable development policies. In the medium term it will be difficult to conceive of transporting goods over thousands of kilometres by road.”

As a specialist for industrial logistics, Gefco offers holistic logistics services, based on its key areas of expertise – Logistics, Overseas, Overland, Vehicle Distribution and Gefboxsystem. Present in some 150 countries, the group ranks among Europe’s top ten logistics groups. In 2009 its 9,400 employees generated at more than 400 business locations worldwide a turnover of EUR 2.9 billion.
