Gefco opens airfreight hub for Central- and Eastern Europe

New Gefco branch for airfreight at Frankfurt Airport

Gefco Group enforces their committment in airfreight forwarding from/to Central- and Eastern Europe. On July 1st 2009 the Paris based specialist for industrial logistics opened a new branch at Frankfurt Airport. The new airfreight hub located in Cargo City Süd will act as centre for intercontinental airfreight services of the Gefco Group with places of origin or destination in the countries in Central and Eastern Europe.

"This decision will increase our competitive position. Frankfurt offers excellent conditions with short distances to our customers and partners and an excellent infrastructure. This means that we can optimise our import and export processes", says Kai Längert, head of the air- and seafreight division with Gefco Germany.

As a first step the new hub will mainly handle imports ex Asia (with a focus on China). The logistics service provider expects at least one to two consolidated cargo consignments per week in the start-up phase. Besides they will handle customised shipments right from the beginning. Depending on the quality of the pre- and oncarriage structures the airfreight hub is to be expanded as soon as possible. Apart from the new hub in Frankfurt, Gefco operates an airfreight hub in Paris Charles de Gaulle for the traffic from/to France and Western Europe.
