Geis group: new central hub in Slovakia

Geis Group opens new hub for general cargo with integrated transshipment hall for parcels in Zvolen

The internationally operating Geis group added a new productive location to its Eastern European network. The logistics provider headquartered Bad Neustadt, Franconia, opened a central transhipment facility in Zvolen. The location in the heart of Slovakia accommodates a hub for general cargo and a 3,000 m² transshipment hall for parcels with about 100 loading gates on a total hall area of about 8,000 m². Geis invested a total of about EUR 7 million into the new facility, where 80 employees will be working.

Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis, managing partners, said “We saw a strong development in Slovakia in the past years. Volume has been rising steadily and we have continually adjusted our national network. It was time to respond to this growth through an entirely new combined hub.“

The facility as distribution centre for cargo consignments and as transshipment hall for parcels creates synergies to the full benefit of customers by processing parcel and pallet consignments together at the customer’s premises, and only dividing them into parcel and pallet consignments at the Geis premises using their own system. The special features of the central hub include an IP video surveillance system, recording the movements of all consignments and monitoring the entire external area of the hub. Another special feature is the service station for their own vehicles and the vehicles of partners.

Since its establishment in 1948, the Geis group has evolved to a global full-service logistics provider with approximately 4,000 employees in Europe, 84 own network- and logistics facilities. The owner-managed company offers its customers a complete range of logistics services, from traditional truck traffic and global air and ocean freight to complex logistics services.
