Germania approaching Moscow airport from Leipzig/Halle Airport

Leipzig/Halle Airport: Gateway to Europe for Russia’s logistics industry; additional flights to Moscow’s Domodedowo airport

Russia’s logistics industry is making more and more use of Leipzig/Halle Airport as a gateway to European markets. In a press release the airport announces a new flight service of the German airline Germania to Domodedowo airport in Moscow. From December 2013 the airline will operate two weekly flights to Russia’s capital. This complements the existing connections to Moscow operated by Aeroflot and Yakutia from the Dresden International airport.

The efficient infrastructure and the geographic situation of the Leipzig/Halle airport have become particularly interesting for Russian partners. However, this is underlined by previous projects: In January 2013 Volga-Dnepr Technics GmbH, a company of the Volga-Dnepr group, opened a hangar for weather-independent maintenance and repair of the aircraft at the Leipzig/Halle Airport.

Following the airport in Frankfurt/Main, Leipzig/Halle Airport is Germany’s second largest freight hub. Cargo volume at Leipzig/Halle Airport has further increased in Jul 2013. Compared with the same month of the previous year they handled 3.4 per cent more or 75,000 tonnes. In the first six months of 2013 turnover grew by 3.8 per cent to 438,274.5 tonnes.
