Half-year results put Romanian ports in a positive mood

Romanian seaports registered growth across all segments between January and July 2012
 
It was a positive first half of the year 2012 for Romania’s seaports. In a press release the port administration ‚Maritime Ports Administration S.A. Constantza‘ (MPA) announces growing throughput figures in the Black Sea port of Constanza including the satellite ports Midia and Mangalia.
 
In the period from January to June 2012 the total traffic of goods through the Romanian maritime ports amounted to 24,764,452 tonnes, a 16.1%-increase compared to the same period of 2011. The maritime traffic reached 18,889,785 tonnes, which means an increase of 9.94 per cent. River traffic handled 5.874.667 tonnes, representing an increase of 41.59 per cent as compared to the first six months of 2011. Container traffic registered 3,312,916 tonnes by the end of June 2012, or 341,866 TEU, as compared to 2011 (3,146,619 tonnes, or 319,430 TEU, respectively). In comparison with the same period of 2011, the increase was 5.28 per cent in tonnes and 7.02 per cent in TEU.
