Hellmann East Europe expands in Central Asia and Germany

New branch in Kazakhstan focuses the energy industry; the group plans to open locations Augsburg and Hamburg, both Germany
Hellmann East Europe (HEE), a company of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics GmbH & Co. KG (Osnabrück), has started operating in Almaty, Kasachstan as of 15 April 2015. With its new presence in the biggest city of this central Asian state the transport and logistics provider prolongs its strategy of expansion in this region.

Following the newly formed joint venture with Engemann & Co. GmbH, expanding the operations in Kazakhstan the second important step in line with the planned expansion of business in Eastern Europe. According to Michael Mihm, CEO Hellmann East Europe, further milestones will be the opening of additional offices in Augsburg and Hamburg later this year.

The new presence in Kazakhstan underlines Hellmann East Europe’s aim to further optimise its own network and generate new business opportunities in Central Asia. „Kazakhstan is known as one of the bridgeheads from Asia, especially to Russia. The decision for us was obvious, to act independently as Hellmann East Europe here as well,“ said Michael Mihm about the importance of the new presence in Kazakhstan.

In addition to the opportunities, that brings an expansion of operations on the important strategic bridgehead in Asia-Europe transport, Hellmann East Europe also has to face some challenges: „In the countries of the CIS everything depends on the right staff. After years of searching for a suitable team, we were finally able to find one and are glad about this asset for our global network,“ said Michael Mihm.

In Kazakhstan, Hellmann East Europe will be particularly active in the energy sector. In this region the specialist for Eastern Europe benefits from its own experience with Azerbaijan. „We started with eight employees in Almaty and have in view the oil and gas regions Aktau and Atyrau on the Caspian Sea. We expect to open the branches there by the summer of 2015. This is the perfect complement to Baku, Azerbaijan where we have been operating particularly for the energy industry for five years,“ says Patrick Nathe, also Managing Director of the company.
