HHLA group wants to grow in 2012 despite weakening dynamics

Port logistics group HHLA (Hamburg) experienced above-average growth in its core markets in the 2011 financial year

Based on the events of the year to date and current market estimates, Hamburger Lager und Logistik AG (HHLA) expects that 2012 will see a substantial slowdown in the development of container handling. However, the enterprise expects growth to continue to be above-average. Against the background of the substantially weakening dynamics and global economy, the management aims at 5 per cent-growth in container throughput, transport, revenue and results in the 2012 financial year.

In this context the management attaches great importance prompt beginning of the dredging of the river Elbe’s navigation channel, as they emphasised several times at the balance press conference.In the 2011 financial year the company established in port logistics business experienced above-average growth in its core markets. Container throughput rose by 21.3 percent to 7.1 million TEU, and intermodal container transport in seaport hinterland transport went up by 11.3 per cent to 1.9 million TEU. The HHLA group’s revenue grew by 14 per cent to EUR 1.22 billion, while the operating result (EBIT) improved by 7.3 per cent to EUR 207 million. Profit after tax and minority interests improved by 17.1 per cent to EUR 89.3 million. At the closing day of the balance sheet the HHLA group had 4,797 employees.
