Hödlmayr opens Belgium’s first and biggest solar parking

Solar panels at carports of HN Autotransport protect against environmental damage and cover the power need of the site:

The Belgian Hödlmayr subsidiary HN Autotransport becomes energy-independent. At 200 carports, covering a total space of 36,000 m², 21,600 solar panels were mounted at the company premises in Tongeren. The new solar system covers the energy demand of the enterprise by far.

Following successful test runs the new energy supply of HN Autotransport in Belgium was connected to the grid a few days ago. The new solar parking offer space for 3,000 vehicles. Chris Posen, Hödlmayr manager in Belgium says: „On the one hand we guarantee customers that their vehicles are protected against environmental damage such as hail, on the other hand we make a contribution to environmental protection.“ On cloudless days the new solar system achieved a peak performance of 4,536 kW; an annual average performance of 4,100 MWh can be expected. This will cover the annual energy demand of the Belgian Hödlmayr company by far. Surplus energy is fed to the public power grid.

Hödlmayr International AG is investigating the option of implementing similar projects at more locations – among them in Austria and Hungary. Environmental projects in the frame of the group’s sustainable philosophy reduced the CO2-emissions of the worldwide operating company by around 15,000 tons per year, as they state.

HN Autotransport nv based in Tongeren, Belgium employs 180 staff. The enterprise has 80 special trucks, carrying about 300,000 vehicles per year, and has 142,000 m² warehousing area for 6,500 vehicles.
